Oil Palm Plantation

I am currently working on oil palm plantation & mill, as a Corporate HR System & Project . My main responsibilities as a Corporate HR System & Project are:

1.  Project formulation of policy and SOP.

2. Business Process mapping (in collaboration with business process improvement department).

3. Project continuous improvement to the system, especially related to HR policies

4. Project management and administration of population and settlement companies  in all sub business unit/site.

Before I work in Oil palm Plantation, I work in chemical building and polymer industry. It is really different  between one to another.   I never though before that i will work in oil palm plantation.  In the first week of work, I got confused with some of the terms used. But of course, the confusion should be terminated immediately by learning. And fortunately the company has set up a field orientation program to help people like me to be able to understand quickly about the oil palm industry.

In order to work properly, then the first thing to be noted is we must understand about the core business  and business process in the industry in which we work .

Oil Palm Plantation?

Oil palm plantations cultivated by many countries , private estates and estates of the people . This is because oil palm plantations have a high economic value in terms of industry. The main products produced by the plant oil palm is palm oil . In the commodity economy of Indonesian palm holds a strategic role , because this commodity has a promising future as a source of state income .

Palm oil is the main cooking oil feedstock that is widely used around the world. In addition, the palm oil can also be used as ingredients in the manufacture of: mentaga, foodstuff, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, cosmetic tools, bio-diesel fuel, building materials, and more. So, we can imagine, this industry will still be required. It is continuously able to create vast employment opportunities , so that it can absorb a lot of manpower and improve the welfare of society .

Terminology in Oil Palm Industry

It is very important to know about the term used. I hope the definition below can give you some insight or knowledge. Check this out:

CPO is Crude Palm Oil / Minyak kelapa sawit mentah

TBM is Tanaman Belum Menghasilkan , are plants that are maintained since the first planting until harvest at age 36-48 months

TM is Tanaman menghasilkan/Generating Plant , a plant that is maintained for more than 36 months has been flowering and fruiting .

TBS  (Tandan buah segar) is fresh fruit bunches of oil palm fruit is ready to harvest indicated that the criteria include fruit has colored shiny and of 10 kg of fruits have no seeds membrondol much as 2 seeds . Berondol is palm kernel apart from tandan fruit.

ALB is Asam lemak Bebas/a free fatty acid that shows the quality of the oil produced from ripe fruit harvest

TPH is Tempat Pemungutan Hasil / polling results . TPH is made in any garden plasma ( plots ) that act as a point of accumulation of the fruit after harvest , making it easy to transport fruit loaded into MCC location .

Etiolasi is oil palm trees that grow abnormally elevated growth with the main characteristics .

Palm Oil Factory/Mill

In the processing of Tandah Buah Segar (TBS) of oil palm to be a CPO, there is a process that must be passed:

1. Penerimaan TBS/Loading Ramp (tempat penimbun)

Once the fruit is sorted by the sorting, the fruit is inserted into the cage above the ramp rail to lorry and then put into the sterilizer

2. Sterilization

Sterilization is the process of boiling in a vessel called the sterilizer. It’s goal is to have fruit (FFB) soften and separated from their stems also reduces the water content in the fruit

3.Thresser

At this station TBS boiled ready to be separated between berondolan and stems. Before entering into thresser TBS that has been boiled to be imported by using the auto feeder

4. Pressing Station

In this pressing station, we will produce oil and residue (consisting of seed and fiber), which will be separated by using a cake breaker conveyor.

5.Clarification Station

To get the oil meets the standards, it needs to be done to the oil refining
