A month ago, my friend Eno asked me to try getting scholarship abroad. We plan to majored psychometric, and for me this majored has a special place. I love psychometric, even though many people said psychometric was a boring and difficult topic to learn. I ever said to my friends that I wanted to be an expert in Psychometric. it was years ago. But, with the passage of time, I forgotten about the dream. And now..someone reminds me about it. Ya…and it makes me excited and nervous. I am nervous because my English is very poor. My English is very bad. I feel inferior…hiks..hiks… and this is not my first time to feel inferior due to English. But I try not to be drowned in this feeling. So, Eno and I decided to be partner in English.
Two weeks later, My other friend Dita asked similar thing. She asked me to get a scholarship abroad too. I was wondering if this might be a sign for me to finally pursue my dreams. Wasn’t it? If so, I should have to take a concrete step. Yes…. I must start my first step….
17 September 2015, Today is my first time for joining the meeting held by Essential Toastmaster Club. The location of meeting is in D’cost of 3rd floor Mall Semanggi. I come after finishing my Yoga exercise with Mrs. Ningrum at 6.00 p.m. The meeting will be start at 6.30. According to the Schedule, I only have 30 minutes to reach out the place. I must be hurry…and because this is my first time, I don’t want to be late, so I decided to use ojek. Thank you ojek… You are my favorite transportation in Jakarta!!..heheh…
When arrived at D’Cost Mall Semanggi, I saw that there were four
people inside the cube room. I got nervous and my heart was bumping fastly, because I was afraid and feel bad for my English. But, surprisingly, when I say “hi… I am a guest, this is my first time to visit this club…” , I didn’t get nervous. Everything is going to be fine…I can make it. This is my first step to move on from my inferiority. Every move always starts by first action . And my first action is by visiting this club.
This Club is very awesome. They have a positive climate, and I love it very much. They are just so humble and very open to others. They don’t judge your English, they just encourage you to speak and try. They can make you feel safe and feel relax even you are in nervous situation. I think it will be very nice if I make a research about “ what can make the climate very positive and how they can maintain it”. And “what is their motivation to be there and to be a supporter for others?”. Ya..ya…this is a good idea.. I think I will do small research for myself. Hope someday I can publish it as journal…hahahha…Okay, then…back to topic, The Meeting in Essential Toastmaster Club.
Their methodology in this meeting is active participants. There are so many roles that apply in this meeting. And everyone has their own role. You can be as a Timer, host, Grammarian, Ah&WoD Counter, Individual evaluator or General evaluator.
For a guest like me, they give an opportunity to introduce myself . So, I introduce myself to let them know about me. And they try to make an interactive conversation with me by asking a few question. It’s nice and very helpful.
The theme of meeting is “Becoming a Good Parents”. The Host try to build a good rapport by asking the audience about “have they watch superman returns?” . She asking this question because she wants to describe and explain about becoming a Good parents by pulling the essence of the film. She made an introduction to a theme of meeting.
After she made an opening and short speech, she invited two speaker to deliver presentation material. First speaker present about “ the Greatest impact of an accident”, dan the second speaker topic is “your body speaks, make your move”.
From their presentation, I have a lot of thing to learn. Not only about English grammar, sentences, vocabulary, but also about how you can be a good speaker in front of the audience.
This meeting is very productive. And I hope that I can join next meeting. I am very lucky to be there. And I am very proud of me because I dared to attend the Meeting. Thanks TINA…Thank you for never giving up and Thank you for your spirit to learn
